The Covington Baptist Association has been involved in disaster relief work since 2003. The association began its’ ministry work in the area of chaplaincy. About that same time, there was a real need to assist the volunteers deploying to perform clean-up and recovery efforts, and also to help people who had been directly affected due to whatever disaster was being addressed at the time. The Alabama Baptist Disaster Relief leadership, in efforts to address this need, requested associations to prayerfully consider creating a portable laundry unit which could be deployed with the mass feeding, chainsaw/clean-up, and shower teams.
In 2003, under the leadership of Brother Larry Cummings, Director of Missions for Covington County at the time, the Covington Association had a laundry trailer built to fulfill this need. This unit has served the association well for the past 22 years and is currently undergoing a complete rebuild. In 2011, during the tenure of Otis Corbit, Director of Missions at that time, the association organized a chainsaw team to further assist with the efforts of Alabama Baptist Disaster Relief.

Currently, we are starting renewed efforts within our association, requesting our member churches, along with their membership, to prayerfully consider participating in the on-going efforts of Covington Baptist Association. We are starting to reach out to our member churches requesting the opportunity to come and discuss how each one of us can make our association’s efforts in this area a success. Together we can fulfill the motto of Alabama Baptist Disaster Relief… “Bringing Help, Hope and Healing” to those who need it the most!
