Dear Covington Baptist Association Members:
The opportunity to go on a mission trip to the Cayman Islands from May 19 to June 9, 2010 was an amazing blessing. During the week, our group of five stayed on Grand Cayman and worked with Cayman Islands Baptist Church on various projects, such as visiting and singing at a nursing home, ministering to new Christians through Bible studies and visits, painting, planting trees, researching gambling (the legalization of which is a current issue there), and recommending design changes and new pages for the church’s website. Dr. Randy von Kanel, the pastor of the church, spent time personally discipling our group with a Bible study in Galatians as well as having us read through various Christian books, such as Randy Alcorn’s The Grace and Truth Paradox and Elisabeth Elliot’s A Chance to Die: the Life and Legacy of Amy Carmichael.
On the weekends, we would travel to Cayman Brac to work with Ebenezer Baptist Church and Fellowship Baptist Church, neither of which currently has a pastor. On Friday and Saturday nights, we would hold youth meetings that included worship, a message, food, and games. On Sundays, we would speak in the morning and evening services of each church. The Holy Spirit really moved throughout the course of those three weekends, and three young people came to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior! Since two people had made decisions for Christ prior to our arrival and were awaiting baptism, a total of five believers were baptized on our last Sunday there! Personally, we gave our first sermons ever and performed our first baptisms ever, and we even had the privilege of baptizing a set of twins! Since we have returned home, we have heard that two more youth on Cayman Brac have placed their faith in Jesus Christ! All the glory and praise goes to the Father, the Son, and Holy Spirit for the work that was done there and is continuing!
Personal note from Robert: I thank the Godly men and women of the Covington Baptist Association for their willingness to support individuals who have a God-given passion for serving the Lord through missions. I hope many more people will be able to go on their first mission trips through the generosity of the CBA and its member churches! Thank you again, and may God continue to bless each of you!
Personal note from Madison: The God-given generosity and love that the members of the Covington Baptist Association show through the missions scholarship program is quite rare. With the costs of international travel always rising, it is refreshing to see a group of people not just telling people to fulfill the Great Commission but giving them a means of doing so. I am deeply appreciative of the CBA’s generous gift, and I pray that this ministry of equipping God’s children for the mission field will continue for years to come! Thank you so much, and may God’s blessings continue to shine on you!
God bless you,
