Dr. Smith is a graduate of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and has a Master Degree in Divinity (1980) and a Master Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy (1998). He also has a Doctorate Degree in Christian Counseling. Dr. Smith served churches as a pastor and Bible teacher for twenty-eight years in Mississippi and Alabama. After serving in Desert Storm as an Army Chaplain, he went into full-time work as a professional counselor. he is licensed by the State of Alabama as a Marriage and Family Therapist.
Dr. Smith describes the kind of clients he has as: couples with marriage problems, individuals with personal struggles, and children with varaied emotional challenges.
Dr. Smith and his wife, Martha moved to Brewton, Alabama in 1998 where he conducted counseling, directed the work of the Samaritan Counseling Center, and provided Chaplain services to the in-patient facility of the S. W. McMillan Hospital (1998 - May, 2002). He joined the Alabama Baptist Children's Home and Family Ministry and operates Pathways Professional Counseling in Brewton. In addition to Brewton, he takes appointments in Andalusia, Frisco City, and Grove Hill. These appointments are conducted in cooperation the the Associational Offices in those cities.
Dr. Tommy Smith is retired from the Active Army Reser ve as a Colonel with twenty-five years service. he is a veteran of Desert Storm and was the Command Chaplain of the 81st. Regional Support Command, headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama. Chaplain Smith was responsible for the religious support of over 30,000 troops and their families in the eight state souther region and supervised 87 army reserve chaplains.
